I posted last week about my upsetting experience in a certain restaurant. I took to their website to bring the issue to their attention, not really looking for much, other than an apology. What I really wanted was to have a discussion with someone about the experience, and maybe have someone explain that little device on the tables to me.

Instead, though, I just received an email with a gift certificate. The gesture was very nice, and will absolutely get used ASAP given my affinity for unlimited soup, salad and breadsticks. It wasn’t really what I wanted. I mean, anyone can complain, even fabricate a complaint in the hopes of getting a literal free lunch.

I wanted to let them know that there’s a gap in service that they needed to address. Their staff ignored me and it made me feel bad. I just wanted someone to say, “my bad, we didn’t see you there.” I didn’t even need the gift card. Sometimes we throw money at the problem to make it go away. In this case, the automated system addressed my problem, but I’m not really sure if I try this again, the same thing won’t happen. I’ll let you guys know how it turns out.
