I will readily own up to the fact that I talk to myself. Most of the time, I verbalize only to silence a particularly negative bit of inner monologue. Even then, it is a nonsensical uttering that is meant to interrupt my brain. It doesn’t always work, but as coping strategies go, it’s about as effective as it’s going to get.

I will also talk to myself as a way of finding a lost item or idea. I imagine this is how most people operate as well. I recently saw an article which described some published experiments that showed a marked improvement in the ability to find something by talking to yourself.

First of all, this is simply great news because, if I keep in my current trend, I’ll never lose another thing. I talk to myself all the time, so maybe I can redirect it into something productive.
